Religion is a very, very sensitive subject. Same as political affiliation.
Unless, you are serving a very specialized niche, steer your business and brand clear from religious sentiments, especially negative sentiments. This applies to political affiliations too. You cannot use derogatory language in reference to 'political opponents' or in voicing 'differing religious views' in public forums as a business owner or business leader. Your sentiments may or may not reflect those of your organization, however, depending on your rank, your customers, potential customers and employes will take your personal sentiments to be similar to those of the organization you lead.
Unless you are a very established business, with a product or service that the world cannot do without or you are a monopoly and with mountains of barriers to entry in the market you are serving, you would be wise to tread carefully when it comes to touchy matters such as religion or politics especially in Africa, Kenya to be precise. You want to steer clear of marketing material that would be seen as offensive by your existing customers or potential customers.
It makes sense if you are a Muslim running a restraurant and opt to not have pork on your menu. However, it does not make sense, to hang art that Christians would find offensive in your restaurant if you expect that Christians will comfortably dine at your restaurant. Since your niche is wide and is not irreligious, you want to make all your patrons as comfortable as possible in your premises in order for them to give you repeat business and probably bring along their friends next time.
Imagine you are running a HR consultancy firm. As the owner of the business, you have various social media pages, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and Faceboook etc and since you perceive yourself as open minded and have freedom of speech and for some reason have an issue with the Hindu religion you find humour in posting memes a Hindu would find offensive on your social media hurdles that greatly entertain your fans. While you are looking for business leads, you get introduced to the owner of a Hindu School and since you need the business you end up pitching to the school board, consisting of Hindus. Some of the directors were your followers at some point and remember some of your memes. Why would they bring you onboard as their HR consultant? Would you require them to be unbiased yet you are publicly biased?
I know businesses that have lost potential customers due to their lack of wisdom in reference to religious or political matters. To avoid such scenarios, many businesses have a policy around politics and will require any employee, regardless of rank to declare their intention to get into politics and resign in the event they opt to run for political seats.
